Baghpat, UP – On Saturday, August 16, 2025, a major burst occurred in the Indian Oil Corporation’s Dadri–Panipat Natural Gas Pipeline running under the Yamuna river in Baghpat district.
The explosion was so powerful it shot water 30–35 feet into the air, creating panic in nearby villages, including Katha and Mavikala.
Officials suspect the rupture was caused by a heavy stone striking the pipeline in floodwaters, though the exact cause will be confirmed after inspection.
No casualties were reported. IOC immediately shut gas supply through the damaged line and diverted it via alternate routes to avoid disruption. Repair operations are underway with officials and engineers securing the site.
The dramatic water eruption drew crowds, but police and local administration maintained order. Authorities said the situation is now under control.
