Days ahead of a referendum on whether to restart Taiwan's last decommissioned nuclear power plant, over 500 scholars signed a petition against a return to nuclear energy. They cited safety, costs and environmental concerns. At the same time, pro-nuclear activists opened a special exhibit in Taipei detailing nuclear energy's advances in safety and usefulness for the country's energy supply.
