On July 23rd, the International Court of Justice issued an advisory opinion on countries' obligations to address climate change under international law. According to their unanimous ruling, nations can now be held accountable for their climate-harming practices, even if they have not signed onto the Paris Agreement. The ICJ ruling also links climate action to the protection and promotion of human rights, including the right to a clean, healthy, and sustainable environment.
