The crackdown of a large-scale tobacco, cigarette and cigar smuggling syndicate stemmed from arrests made under Ops Sohor, said Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief Tan Sri Azam Baki.
He said the latest intelligence-led operation, codenamed Ops Sikaro, was spearheaded by the MACC’s Special Operations Division with support from Bank Negara Malaysia, the Inland Revenue Board (LHDN) and the Customs Department.
Azam stressed that multi-agency collaboration is key to curbing smuggling, which has caused major financial losses to the government.
