This woman told how her fear of spiders was so great that she now has to sleep with an anti-creepy crawly tent over her bed.
Megan Ita, 26, first came up with the idea of modifying her bed with an anti-spider tent after a traumatic experience with her eight-legged fear at her partner’s house - which resulted in her being unable to sleep in the bed at all.
Finding the solution of a mesh tent, the very same night, she set up her new shelter on the bed and now says that she’s sleeping much better, with her fear of spiders being completely taken away.
Megan, from Co.Kilkenny, Ireland, said: “I started thinking I should buy some mesh over the bed, but came across the mosquito tent which seemed the perfect solution.
“At first it was a joke between my boyfriend and I that I’d sleep in it, but now I’m quite safe and sound and haven’t slept better.
“I’m definitely sleeping much better. It takes the fear away of spiders and insects crawling all over me in the middle of the night.”
The make up artist has an intense fear of creepy crawlies which was worsened by a huge spider crawling over her partner’s bed one night.
Unsure of how to get over her fear, she came up with the idea of kitting out her bed with a small mesh tent, which would cover her while she slept - with the sole intention of keeping the spiders out.
At first, she felt a little claustrophobic in the tent, as it only covers one side of the bed, but she says after watching TV for a short while, she soon felt comfortable enough to sleep.
Now, she says sleep has been much easier and she has had no run-ins with spiders at all.
While her family were at first sceptical that she would keep on sleeping in the tent, Megan says that she has no plans on stopping soon, although she doesn’t think it will be a permanent solution.
Posting a video online about her tent, she says that some people were bemused by the idea, where others were completely supportive, even asking for a link to the tent.
She said: “I was staying at my boyfriend’s house and I was up late catching up on some of my shows. He had already fallen asleep.
“I’d say my eyes were shut for about 10 minutes when I felt something crawl down my face and onto my neck. I jumped up and screamed, which woke my boyfriend up.
“He turned the light on and shook down the duvet and found nothing only an eyelash so he assumed it must have been that. I was not convinced.
“A moment later, a huge black spider crawled up the back of the headboard and onto the wall so I knew I was right.
“It was something I didn’t fear until the night it happened. Although the first night in the net tent I did get quite claustrophobic, but after a few minutes you realise how big it actually is in there and it helps being able to look out and watch tv safely too.
“My family all thought I was going mad when I ordered it, and my boyfriend swore I wouldn’t last a minute in it.
“People online have had mixed reviews, I’ve had about 20% of people calling me crazy, telling me it’s the most stupid idea they’ve ever heard of and that it’s useless because they can still get inside.
“However the support from the other 80% has been completely unexpected. I’m getting so many comments and DM’s asking for the link and people telling me they have severe arachnophobia and this will solve their bedtime problems.
“The girls in the comments really have my back, and I think all the people hating on it have a fear of their own that they’re just not willing to admit.
“If it keeps someone happy I don’t see the harm in it. I’m sure it’ll just be a phase for now. I don’t exactly plan on sleeping in it forever. But until I get over the fear of one crawling down my face, I don’t think I’m harming anyone.”
