Congressman Sambhajirao Kunjir, a former legislator of India's western Maharashtra state has been beaten by members of a rival faction of the party.
The members had gathered at the Pune Congress Bhavan for a meeting to elect a new President for the Pune District Congress Committee.
A scuffle broke down between Kunjir and former District Congress President, Devidas Bansali, when Kunjir tried to put his point of view.
Congress workers loyal to Bansali then attacked Kunjir with chairs and other furniture.
No formal complaint has been lodged with the police.
