The US supreme court has ruled that local and state governments cannot deny an individual's right to own a gun.
The decision is expected to have wide-ranging implications across the country, particularly in cities trying to quell violent crime.
The ruling also means that prevailing regional gun control laws -- some which have been in force for decades - may now have to go.
