Voters in the New Hampshire hamlet of Dixville Notch receive ballot papers, ready to cast the first election day votes in the presidential race.
Just ten voters in the remote community gathered at the polling station on Monday (November 5) night to choose either Barack Obama or Mitt Romney for president.
On the strike of 12 o'clock, they cast their ballots.
After a quick count, moderator Tom Tillotson announced the result.
SOUNDBITE: TOM TILLOTSON, TOWN MODERATOR IN DIXVILLE NOTCH SAYING (English):
"For President, this has never happened before in Dixville -- we have a tie. Five votes each."
The tie came as a surprise to some voters in the community.
SOUNDBITE: VOTER PETER JOHNSON SAYING (English):
"I'm surprised at the tie. I am bewildered -- best way to describe my reaction. I didn't think that Obama would get as many votes."
Around 120 million Americans are expected to vote in Tuesday's (November 6) election.
