A small town in north Wales is engulfed by water after the local river overflowed onto its streets.

Fire fighters were joined by volunteer members of the local RNLI sea rescue organisation to free residents who were trapped in chest-high water.

Britain's Environment Agency said Tuesday nearly 1,000 homes across England and Wales had been flooded since the onset of the wet weather almost a week ago.

Flood warnings were in place in some 350 locations on Tuesday evening.

Britain has been hit by several severe floods over the past 10 years, with one in the summer of 2007 costing insurers about 3 billion pounds ($4.8 billion).
