Hello, I'm Wade Coye from the Coye Law Firm. For many of our clients, who suffer from accident injuries or disabilities, receiving an epidural-steroid injection is a common procedure that can help ease pain for weeks, months or a year in some cases. It is something that can be used to evade complex surgeries and other harsher treatments, but the risk with these procedures may outweigh the benefits right now.
The cause of the recent meningitis outbreak was linked to an epidural-steroid injection the patients were receiving to treat chronic back and neck pain. In addition to typical meningitis symptoms like headache, fever, nausea, and stiffness of the neck, people with fungal meningitis may also experience confusion, dizziness, and discomfort from bright lights. Patients might just have one or two of these symptoms, and they might not present for over a month.
Health officials stated that as many as 13,000 people received these suspected steroid shots that were believed to be the cause of the national outbreak. While there has already been a nationwide recall of a wide range of the suspected products, 23 states have already been identified as receiving the contaminated vials, including the state of Florida.
Meningitis is not something you should take lightly. If you or a loved one has received an epidural-steroid injection within the last 5 weeks and has developed symptoms related to meningitis, you are at risk. If you experience any symptoms, contact your medical provider immediately, as it could be fatal.
Getting the medical care you need should not be delayed.
