In an interview, Mamnoon Murshed Chowdhury talks about the building code law of Dhaka city and its irregularities. He says law enacting and imposition are two different things. He says we have laws regarding the building construction already but we do not pay attention. We could have avoided many occurrences if our law had been imposed properly. Besides, if the authority does not monitor if the existing law is properly imposed, the law will not work to change the scenario. He mentioned that every time we face any crisis, the RAJUK says it does not have necessary human resource. The solution to this crisis, according to him, is to engage more people or to minimize the authoritative area of RAJUK. He thinks it is very conflicting that the RAJUK is engaging itself into business and regulating the business at the same time. Therefore, the businesspersons might have complain against itself. Moreover, he thinks since the illegal means of any authoritative body motivate more people, the illegal means of any authority should be stopped. Any law will not work until we impose the law properly, he added. He mentioned that sometimes RAJUK tries to ban some building construction but court rule delays or lessen the supremacy of it.
